At four times of the year the world is judged: On Passover judgment is passed concerning grain; on Shavuot concerning fruits that grow on a tree; on Rosh HaShana, all creatures pass before Him like sheep [benei maron], as it is stated: “He Who fashions their hearts alike, Who considers all their deeds” (Psalms 33:15); and on the festival of Sukkot they are judged concerning water, i.e., the rainfall of the coming year. (Mishna Rosh hashone 1:2)
Rosh Hashone is truly a great time to discuss Jewish anarchism, when all creatures are being judged before the one true king. This expresses the core value of Judaism – there is no judge but the one true judge, there is no law supreme to the Torah, och there is no king but the king of kings. Judaism is at its core loyalty to core. When we do not serve God, we serve something else – this is avode zore.
Why does God judge all creatures on Rosh hashone? Hajom haras haoilem. On this day God created the world. Nothing can belong to anyone other than him. This is reflected in how land is handled during the shmita and yoivel years. But those are only for rememberance. No land, no creature, no plant can ever truly be owned by anyone else.
The one who says not “I will use this land for the good of the world or my community” or “I will use this land for the service of God” but “This land i mine and I use it as I see fit” is not only ignorant, but is literally committing idolatry. He is putting man in Gods place.
These are but a few examples of how the ideologies of the nation, of the state apparatus and the private ownership of capital is the very antithesis of judaism, which in it’s essence is loyalty to the one God (expressed in acceptance of yoke of heaven, by obedience to the heavenly Law as interpreted by rabbbinic tradition).
The reason there is such a conflict between Judaism and these competing systems – the nation state and the ownership of capital – is that these systems demand we obey them over our communities, our consciousness and our faith. The idea of being a Jew at home and a citizen in public is having two masters. When we accept the separation of “the economy” and “charity”, that is having two masters.
This society that forces us to live under wage slavery. The reason they can do that is because they and their forefathers have stolen Gods land and Gods resources instead of letting Gods creatures utilize them together. Our Pharaos have names and addresses. Jewish anarchism is learning that obedience to God is disobedience to them.
